It’s the month of love… and the colors red and pink! These colors are always incorporated into Valentine’s Day parties, but they are also a great combination to use year-round in your home décor! Since no color should be limited to a holiday, we are excited to share some of our favorite ways to incorporate red and pink into your home.
Red is a bold color, and it’s important to be mindful of how much or how little you use because too much can be overwhelming and too little might not be enough for proper impact. It’s a great accent color and gives you the ability to see clearer detail in designs. When it comes to pink, a soft, light shade is best to create a calming environment. A darker pink on your walls or flooring will make a bolder statement in a bigger space such as your living room or bedroom, but also is a rather a nice choice for a bathroom if you are using a shade similar to a dusty rose color.
For a fresh and bright feel to your furniture, use pink or red accent pillows and see what they can do for your living space! Other low-key ideas that will make a big difference are adding pink or red flowers to brighten any room, or pictures with lots of pink and red in them to for some colorful energy.

Happy New Year from all of us at Sparkle Floors & Carpet! It was a wonderful 2016, and we are excited for new beginnings. We know a lot of people who enjoy doing an “early spring cleaning” when they ring in the new year, and perhaps re-arrange or re-decorate a room. If you’re one of these people, what better way is there to give a whole new look and feel to a room than with new floors?
As we enter into the cold season, many of our customers ask us how to care for their hardwood flooring during the winter months. We want to make sure your floors are protected from extra debris that can be tracked in from the outside, and salt and sand can scratch wood and eat away at protective finishes.
It’s important to realize that proper vacuuming and stain treatment / protection goes a long way toward keeping carpets looking new, also. Therefore, we decided to compile a simple list for you to follow when the winter months come so that your floors and carpets stay good as new!
1.) Make sure you put floor mats on both the outside and the inside of entry ways.
2.) Have a specific place to put wet shoes so that the excess water doesn’t get to your floors. Consider having back up mats to ensure that they are always clean and dry to best absorb water.
3.) Vacuum the salt and / or sand right away. Some debris is bound to be tracked in your house past the floor mats, so be sure to vacuum any visible salt or sand so it doesn’t get into the flooring or carpets!
4.) Be sure to use a recommended cleaner for floors, since not all of them work as well as others. Ask us here at Sparkle floors what we recommend
5.) Get your carpets cleaned now! Most manufactures recommend cleaning your carpet every 18 months, and now is a great time since the winter usually leaves us indoors. Clear out that dust and dandruff left behind now and don’t breathe it in all win

Hardwood flooring has become more and more desired for its beauty, and more importantly for its longevity and functionality. Although carpet has its cozy perks, it is no doubt that hardwood floors are longer lasting especially against the test of children.
Instead of panicking that your children have spilled their dinner, run across the house in dirty shoes or dragged in snow, you can now just take a soft towel and wipe up the mess. Hardwood floors are more durable against dirt and stains than carpets and therefore maintain their elegant appearance for much longer.
Hardwood floors are certainly a great solution for children, but they also make a great solution for pets. Just like small children, pets can also make floors a challenge to keep clean. In the messy weather when your pet runs in the house, hardwood floors make the dirt much easier to clean. When food or water are spilled or accidents happen, hardwood floors will make the incident a lot easier to control.
Here at Sparkle Floors and Carpet, we want to help you choose the right flooring for you and your family. We can give you a tour of our showroom and provide you with samples to bring your visions to life. Please give us a call to schedule a consultation or to ask any questions that you may have. We look forward to working with you soon!
Summer is in full force and our days are getting hotter by the minute. While it’s easy to get distracted with fun in the sun, its also important to remember some easy steps to care for our hardwoods and protect them against the heat and rays. If you are not careful, extended contact with the sun may lead to discoloration. Heat and moisture can also cause warping and gaps in your beautiful hardwoods.
Here are some tips and tricks to get you through the remainder of the summer, and safely into the fall season.
1. Block sunlight. Direct light on your hardwoods for extended periods of time can cause discoloration, in certain spots. The only way to rectify this would be to sand your hardwoods and completely re-stain them. To prevent the sun from coming in you can either install an awning, or curtains to prevent the light from coming in to your home.
2. Keep it cool. Many people tend to turn off the air conditioner or raise the temperature when they leave the house. Although this saves money in the interim, it can do major damage to your floors costing even more in the long term. Keeping the house cool will drain the moisture from your home and prevent warming in the wood.
3. Put down the mop. Take a break from cleaning, as hardwood floor cleaners with wax or a shiny coat can draw sunlight to the wood. Since you do not want to experience discoloration, try and maintain your floors by spot cleaning and vacuuming to collect dust and dirt. You can take a break from the cleaning vacation in the fall, when the sun isn’t so strong.
At Sparkle Floors & Carpet, we want to help you maintain your floors, and enjoy your beautiful home. Please do not hesitate to pick up the phone and call us for any questions that you may have!
As you upgrade your home, you will start to make custom changes to create the space of your dreams. Throughout this process it is essential to question how valuable these changes are to the value of your property – especially when you are making high-cost purchases. One of the thoughts you often need to consider in a new home purchase is flooring. Should you clean existing carpets, replace old carpets, or install hardwoods instead? Most of this depends on budget, but it can also be preference.
Hardwood floors last a lifetime, are easy to maintain and are generally a cleaner option. However, sometimes carpeting can feel cozier, and even safer with young children. Here are some thoughts to consider:
Carpets should be changed every 10 years. If you are considering staying in the home for over 10 years, carpet might be the right option for you. If you have small children, and want to get them through crawling, walking and into a more adult age, you can wait until your new carpets expire and then upgrade to hardwoods. However, if you plan on staying in the home for under 10 years, you may want to consider hardwoods as they increase the value of the home for resale. Hardwood floors last forever, are easier to clean, and are generally the more appealing choice to buyers.
If you are unsure as to whether you should refinish hardwoods, install new hardwoods, or replace old carpets, we are glad to help you learn more about these options. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Sparkle Floor & Carpets, we are always glad to hear from you!
Is it time for you to replace the old carpet in your home with something new? Most people believe that they should choose a new carpet based on color, or pattern. When choosing a carpet, it is most important to also understand what products make sense for your specific needs. If you want to make an investment in a product that will last you many years, there is a lot more to consider when replacing your carpet.
The first thing to consider is where your brand new carpet will reside. You may have different needs for different areas in your home. For example, if the new carpet might be in a high-traffic area, you may want something more firm and stain resistant so its easy to clean. If your new carpet is going to be in a nursery or bedroom, you may want something plush and soft to create a cozy setting. Identifying the use of each room you are putting carpet is the first step.
The second thing you may want to do before choosing the style you love is to determine a budget. There are many tiers of carpet pricing that can range from very affordable, to way beyond your wallet. It is extremely important that you identify a target price range, and share that with your carpet retailer and/or installer in order to manage expectations. This can also help you to narrow your selection and make your carpet shopping experience much simpler and more pleasant.
Once you have taken those steps, it is time to have fun. Once you have identified and communicated the need for the carpet and a budget, your retailer/installer should be able to set up a consultation and show you all of your options. Now is the time where you can choose quality, sizes, colors and patterns. You’ll have the opportunity to feel textures, see colors in person and see the carpet coming to life in your home.
